English majors in both Literature and Linguistics tracks may choose to complete the Teacher Certification program which is run with an agreement between the English Department and the Office for Continuing Education.

Aspiring teachers have a set curriculum which entails the completion of a number of classes in education.  

Students from the English Department at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez routinely score the highest on the Teacher Certification Exam given by Puerto Rico's Department of Education.
