Edwin Burgos Rossy

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Edwin Burgos was accepted at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez to complete a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Microbiology. His research interests are cell-material interaction, extra-cellular matrix enhancement, controlling severity of human immune system reactions, tissue engineering and stem cell based therapies. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Edwin aspires to obtain a medical degree or enter a Ph.D. program in a related field of study.

Coral Irizarry Alvarado

Born in Mayagüez and raised in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Coral is an undergraduate student from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Microbiology. Her research interests include the development of collagen nanofibrous scaffolds and polymeric biomaterials via layer-by-layer technique in order to develop biomimetic materials for tissue reconstruction and study the cell behavior on the collagen nanofibrous to promote stem cell proliferation. Adriana C. Mulero Russe

Currently a second year undergraduate student from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez pursing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Research interest areas include Biomedical engineering especially Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Plans to join graduate school and pursue a PhD degree in this or related field of study.

Luis J. Peña Toledo

Born and raised in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.  Luis is an undergraduate student from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Microbiology. His research interests include the development of bio-polymeric materials to promote stem cell proliferation, as well as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and clinical microbiology. After graduation, Luis aspires to obtain a medical degree or an MD/PhD in a related field of study.

Ferdinand Zavala 

Undergraduate student at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. Pursuing a Degree in Chemical Engineering, and a minor concentration in Material Science. Research interests consist in Mimetic Biomaterials, Tissue Regeneration, Tissue Engineering, Biochemisty, Layer by Layer Assembly, and Regenerative Medicine. After completing his degree, he aspires to obtain a PhD in Biomaterial Science, Biomedical Engineering or BioEngineering. He is also a musician and plays the flute and piccolo in the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez's Campus Marching Band.

Marcos R. Rodríguez Muñoz

Undergraduate student from the University of Puerto-Mayaguez pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.  Research interests include development of nanofibers via electrospinning, development of polymeric biomaterials via the technique of layer-by-layer assembly, and tissue engineering. Aspires to join graduate school and earn a PhD 

Victor G Rivera Llabrés

Native from Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Victor G Rivera Llabrés is an undergraduate student from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. His research interests are tissue engineering, development of polymeric biomaterials, biopolymers and nanomaterials for biomedical applications. Committed to learn more about the world each day and contribute to society he plans to join graduate school and pursue a Ph.D. in Bioengineering or a related field of study. 

Paola E. Nevárez Meléndez

Born and raised in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Paola is currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Compared Literature. Her research interests are in biomedical engineering, specifically cell proliferation and cell differentiation in collagen nanofribrous scaffolds. She aspired to continue her studies to grad school and ultimately obtain a PhD in Bioengineering.
