Campus Verde, the General Library, and Filmoteca of UPRM are proud to announce a new series of films that students can see every Tuesday at 10:30 am. The idea is for you to be able to “become informed while relaxing.” (Please note that Campus Verde is not responsible for the content of each movie and it is not our desire for you to believe that the film necessarily represents UPRM Campus Verde’s goals and ideals.)

IMBD RATING: 7.3 /10

Description: A team of journalists investigate how human trafficking and child labor in the Ivory Coast fuels the worldwide chocolate industry. The crew interview both proponents and opponents of these alleged practices, and use hidden camera techniques to delve into the gritty world of cocoa plantations.

We have selected the series from films which will provide you with INFORMATION for living harmoniously with the planet. However, we cannot control the content of all of the films and we are not trying to be activists; rather we think that you can be part of the solution with everyone becoming aware of the present and planning for the future. Thus, we would want to work within the political system to educate, not alienate. We can make a difference with one individual, within one home, within one community; it does make a difference. Let’s try to make the as many drastic changes during the next 100 years as we made during the last 100 years, but in a more rational and sustainable mode.

Please note that if you miss seeing this film through the Campus Verde Eco-Cine, you can see it on your own by visiting the audiovisual center located in the right, back corner of the General Library. Mr. Eric Muñiz is the coordinator for the Audiovisual section, which will maintain a collection of most of the Eco-Cine films.

Please also make suggestions to CampusVerde@uprm.edu for future titles or other suggestions. Also let us know your ideas for Campus Verde to present “streaming” videos which you could watch on your computer by logging in through the UPRM portal.

Relevo de responsabilidad:

Disclaimer: We hope that you will learn from each film, but we also encourage you to seek out a balanced source of information. For instance, many of the films are NOT balanced; some in fact may be inflammatory. So use your discretion and note when exaggerated strong negative adjectives or phrases are used in the films to promote fear, such usages as “disaster”,  “slaughterers”, “baby killers”, “dumb”, ”stupid”, ”tragedy”, ”catastrophe”, or “we are making a terrible mistake in our policies”. While you may agree with some of the negative language, most documented films with reliable sources use MODERATED adjectives. Also, most trustworthy films suggest information and solutions on how the human species can deal with our current and future problems, such as running out of resources and destroying valuable habitat.

Our policy is to use the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) whenever possible. IMDB uses ratings generated from citizens around the world. If you wish, you can register at IMDB and cast your vote. To help with your scheduling, we also will try to post the runtime for each film, and to provide you with some additional information (year, tagline/plot
