This Horiba Confocal Raman Microscope can be used to identify functional groups that are Raman active. It is a powerful technique that can be focused into small areas of solid or liquid samples to acquire Raman spectra, thus providing useful structural information. Raman has the advantage over FT-IR that is not sensitive to water in the sample. Caution, this system is very sensitive to impacts and vibrations and can easily loose it calibration, thus requiring service. Avoid anything that may move or vibrate the table or area of its location. Also do not operate when in the lock mode, since it may damage the system.
