FT IR Perkin Elmer

The FT-IR is a powerful instrument for the identification of organic, inorganic and biological compounds. It provides a spectrum that is fingerprints for a specific structure that can be compared against a searchable library of spectra.  It can be used to analyze solid and liquids and can be used in several modes, which include using regular IR sample cells, thin tablets and attenuated total reflectance accessory (ATR), among others. Unfortunately this unit does not have the ATR, which is a handy accessory for solid samples.

Precautions. FT-IR instruments are very sensitive to humidity in the environment due to the strong adsorption bands of the water molecule.  It must be operated in a control laboratory environment including humidity controls and samples must be free of water.
