------
FRN Seminar application extension deadline

We are writing to let you know that we will be extending the application deadline for the Network Summer 2015 seminar listed below. The new deadline for this seminar only is Friday, February 27.

Yellow Peril: Understanding Xenophobia– convened by Jack Tchen of New York University

The "yellow peril" is one of the most long-standing and pervasive racist ideas in Western culture—indeed, this seminar traces its history to the Enlightenment era. Yet while Fu Manchu evokes a fading historical memory, yellow peril ideology persists, animating, for example, campaign commercials from the 2012 presidential election. Yellow Peril: Understanding Xenophobia will explore anti-Asian images and writing, pop culture artifacts and political polemic.

We feel that this special seminar will provide a unique perspective on the challenges of globalization, and we encourage you to invite any interested faculty members to submit an application.

Additional information on our seminar convener, Jack Tchen, may be found at this link:

Also, for your convenience, attached to this email message please find an application template that may also be sent to faculty.
